HISTORY

Academia Los Pinares was opened in 1964 by the Eastern Mennonite Board of Missions and Charities as a boarding school for missionary children. Admission was gradually opened to include other English-speaking students who commuted daily to the school. The school was officially recognized by the Honduran government in January of 1974.

In 1977, all property and works of the Mennonite Mission were turned over to the Honduran Mennonite Church. Since an English speaking school did not fit the goals of the Mennonite Church, it was decided to close the school. Parents, however, expressed the desire that the school continue and asked local evangelical missions to continue the school. Representatives of the missions and the parents worked to create a new Academia Los Pinares, which began in the fall of 1977. Classroom space was rented until land was found and purchased by the new school and new facilities were built. God’s goodness and faithfulness here has been evidenced as the school has grown from a small mission school of 50 students to a Christian bilingual school of over 700 students in a full educational program for prekindergarten to twelfth grade.

  9. That all Christians belong to the body of Christ, and form part of the Kingdom community which is the church.
All Christians are called to live holy lives.
  10. In the bodily resurrection.
  11. That Jesus will come again.

PHILOSOPHY

Academia Los Pinares is an evangelical nondenominational, interdenominational, nonprofit elementary and secondary educational institution dedicated to the development of the spiritual, mental and physical growth of the students it serves. It promotes a Christian world view as voiced by Christ himself in Matthew 22:37-39. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself.” Therefore, all subjects that are taught should reflect the primacy of God as well as our responsibility to our neighbor. God’s word should be the guiding, ruling norm in all parts of our lives.

Academia Los Pinares establishes its educational and spiritual goals based on the Word of God as well as the particular needs of the students it serves. It provides biblical instruction and personal guidance that reflect a desire to lead students to personal commitment to God and service to the community and country. The school meets these goals through a high standard of instruction, discipline, example, and life experiences.

Academia Los Pinares is committed to providing a U.S.-type education that meets the needs of the students and also the requirements for a Honduran education.

The total organizational system of Academia Los Pinares will cooperate to meet these standards through policies, teachings, professional departments, and the personal lifestyle of the staff. Compliance with standards of Honduran law, personal welfare, sound financial management, efficient operation, effective communication, and cooperative evaluation are the necessary parts of the school’s total program.

Academia Los Pinares considers itself to be an extension of the home, working with the parents for the benefit of the students. The school is committed to cooperation and communication with parents and encourages parents and teachers to work closely together.
